Alarm going off whenever door is opened?
On my '82 Weissach, the alarm goes off every time I open either the driver's side door or the passenger door. Anyone have any ideas on what the problem could be?

Just tried that... still goes off whenever I open the door. I can turn it off with by turning the key to the left in the door lock, but that's only temporary... until I open the door again.

Long key.

Bypass the alarm and be rid of it. Had two '82's last month (odd, both Weissach's) that were doing this and finally just said to heck with it. Bypass and no issues.

Sean,
That is really what I want to do. I've had issues with the alarm since I bought the car. I don't know much about the alarm system, so could you give me the procedure for bypassing it?
Thanks!

I think the 82 is Pin 1 and 4, I can't seem to find the picture I took a couple weeks back to be sure though. Might need to have Roger take a look at his tomorrow.

Disable the hatch alarm. The connection often corrodes and disengages and can lead to the alarm going off when either opening the door, starting the car, or even when driving. I've experienced all of that, rather priceless when you're driving down the road in traffic and suddenly your car alarm goes off. I had to keep the spare set of keys with me so I can stick my arm out the window and disable it from the door lock, again, while driving. Probably should have garaged her until I found out what the problem was but I was in love.
Anyways, indeed check the hatch alarm. Could be busted. Pull back the trim and you should see the wiring and connector. Take the hatch lock out and inspect for damage. Mine's pretty busted, not sure whether to try and fix and re-key it or buy a good used one and have it keyed in.

AVR 928, that made me chuckle- i too did the arm out the open the window trick! i replaced the hatch lock, and lock set, even the ignition, chasing the cause. finally gave up and bypassed the relay as per instructions. that was 10 years ago... much later on i was looking at those door jamb switches...

Lock the door and then go the the passanger side door and unlock it with the key. I had a problem on my 84' one time similar to what you are dealing with and unlocking from the passanger side did the trick. Something in there wasn't doing what it was supposed to when unlocking from the drivers door. I sold the car a while ago and the same thing happened to the new owner. I told him to try the passanger door lock and it worked for him. Hope you get it figured out.

it is re-arming itself.
Go to each door/hatch and unlock with the key and open the door. One or two of them will NOT turn off the alarm, this is the offending lock mechanism.
On the end of each lock cylinder there is a little piece held on with two small screws, under here is a small spring, this is what will have failed and caused this problem.
When you find the offending door, look in where the wires go and you will find a 3 pin plug brown green and grey wires iirc, simply unplug the lock cylinders which are causing the problem, and the system will remain completely active and functioning until you can remove the offending cylinder and replace that silly little spring.
